Abuse can start very gradually. Don't be afraid to say something if a friend is headed down the wrong path with the wrong person.... It might be the beginning of abuse. http://www.destinationsdreamsanddogs.com/friends-with-p…ive-boyfriends/.

Penn State. Jerry Sandusky. Syracuse University. Bernie Fine. Corey Haim. Corey Feldman. The conversation about abuse is critically important. Please do not forget about the young men and boys who are equally victimized. Their stories are equally important. This is not an issue that should be divided by gender. United, we can turn the tide against the abusers.

Richard, I completely agree. I'm not sure if this comment was in response to my post or to another comment here (can't tell from my phone) but just wanted to point out that my post was to highlight Liz Claiborne's It's Time to Talk day, which is about domestic abuse. But you're absolutely correct in that men and boys are victims of sexual abuse at an alarming rate, and I believe that conversation is only just beginning in earnest. Let's all keep unsilencing survivors everywhere, which is the intention here at Violence UnSilenced (as you so well know). Thank you for all you have done and continue to do.

It’s Time to Talk Day 2011: This Thursday, December 8, 2011, is the 7th annual It’s Time to Talk ... http://t.co/2DcUb8Ry (@VUnSilenced)

So grateful to see "It's Time To Talk Day" posted here. Once again I am being alienated from my family for telling the truth. I made a promise to my mother that if there ever any grandchildren, boys or girls, that their parents would know about her husband (that she chooses to stay with) that is a predator and a child molester. With all of this Penn State stuff on the TV everytime I turn it on, it is a major trigger for me. So, I told my youngest brother and his wife who have been leaving their child at my mother's home. The only outcome that I know of for sure is that it was all denied, and I was asked by my brother to please leave them (my brother and his wife) alone so they could move on. My older brother told me that it was not very nice of me to throw a hand grenade in the middle of the family and walk away, especially right before the holidays and all. After all these years......I will not be ashamed for something someone else did to me! I will not be ashamed for NOT keeping silent any longer.I have had a couple of panic attacks over the past couple of weeks, fear of being tracked down and harmed or killed.I am blessed that I have people that love and support me through this. In hind site, it seems a little silly (sad) that one would need validation for telling the truth and trying to protect a child. But validation I did need, and I got it. Talk about it! Tell the truth! You are NOT the one who is in the wrong or crazy or selfish. Get a support system in place and tell yourself that are not going to sit across the table and break bread with someone who hurt you on such a deep level, that only those of us who have been through it really understand it. Even if you make a silent decision to yourself to do what is best for you this year, to not have to pretend anymore. Not pretending that everything is OK is so, so freeing. The words may not come out of your mouth immediately, bit they will when the time is right, and you will know when that time is right for you.
you can read my entire story at calmacceptance.blogspot.com/
God Bless you all!
